Yes, there's a coronavirus vaccine, two, three? MORE! but I'll rather blog about problems...

Tracking deaths, needless deaths,
culture that endures, cultures that adapt,
race and gender,
joy and loneliness.

Nought-y November

I forgot to post anything in November (I'm actually writing this on Dec 2, 2020.)  I'll be back with one or more posts for December.

Question: What is the easy way to learn things?

How do you learn new maths topics?  I miss books.  Do you try to learn new maths topics, or does your career consist of something else?

Another question: Have you caught covid-19?  Will you like to say what that was like?

Little Drops of Water --> Mighty Ocean

Calling all teachers, educators, and edupreneurs:
// Do you have a small but excellent initiative for STEM Education?  //

I'm actually sharing this on October 07, not on September 30, but you know the drill, I "need" a September post to maintain the technically unbroken streak of posting at least once monthly since the beginning of the blog so I'm wedging this post in September.

starting to write programs in 2020?

Engage Students.  Empower Teachers.  Inspire Creation.
"CodeCombat is a program for students to learn computer science while playing a real game. It has been played in 200 countries around the world and has helped 12M people learn Python and JavaScript."  (video advert recorded before the pandemic)

That is one way to do learn coding in a major programming language.

There are many more ways...
Put your best suggestions in the comments.

Teachers of Africa --->>

Schools really need to put a plan in place on how to tackle all of this, how to continue education, how to ease the return. It's not enough to spray disinfectant around the premises. We need to step up cleaning arrangements and put policies in place to protect both children and staff. Teachers have been playing a crucial role in ensuring that learning continues since the shutdown. They are once again being thrown on the frontline of a new challenge: making sure that the reopening of schools goes smoothly. What if some of them have preconditions that make them susceptible to becoming critically ill when exposed to the virus? And they most probably will be. For instance most can't afford the luxury of personal transportation and need to hop on a public bus to get to work and back. It has been a tough year for everyone: children, parents, school owners and teachers. To give our children that excellent education they deserve we all need to consider ourselves a team. We need each other to get this right because: Together Everyone Achieves More There appears to be more questions than answers with regards to the reopening of schools. What is your take on this? Please share. #primaryschoolsinnigeria #earlyyears #9teesrock #educatorsinnigeria #teachinginnigeria

Ahh 2020, aren't you just special?

The Obamas will make virtual commencement speeches as education goes digital:
  • The coronavirus pandemic has prevented more than 1 billion students around the world attending schools, colleges and universities.
  • Lockdown restrictions have given rise to a boom in online learning and home-schooling.
  • But a digital divide prevents many students from poorer backgrounds accessing online learning.

"Page views to the MedRxiv site are now averaging 15 million a month, up from 1 million before the pandemic. Something significant has changed in medical research."

MORE: It's "a completely new culture of doing research" as coronavirus outbreak changes how scientists communicate.
